چکیده

Since their discovery in 2008, the development of ironbased superconducting materials has been undertaken because of their high critical field, relatively high critical temperature and metal like behavior, that make these materials promising for a number of applications, including magnets and cables. Iron-based superconductors have received a great deal of attention also from the fundamental point of view, due to the coexistence of superconductivity and magnetism in the same system. Within this framework, the ability to induce controlled defects into the material is of chief importance to study its properties depending on disorder, and a well assessed method for this task is particle irradiation. We focused our attention on the effects of heavy ion irradiation on the properties of Ba(Fe0.93Co0.07)2As2 single crystals (Ba(Fe,Co)As henceforth), prepared by the FeAs/CoAs self flux method [1] at the Department of Applied Physics, The University of Tokyo, Japan. In particular, we studied the possibility of tailoring the vortex pinning properties in order to achieve improvement of critical current density, Jc, that is a challenge in view of high power applications. In this Report we describe main results concerning enhancement and anisotropy of vortex pinning induced by 250 MeV Au-ion irradiations at the LNL Tandem accelerator. Beside the positive effects of moderate-fluence irradiations on Jc, the radiation hardness of the material has been checked by means of irradiations to higher fluences (up to 1.61011 cm-2) and compared to radiation hardness of cuprate high-Tc superconductors.

Jump in specific heat at the superconducting transition temperature in Ba(Fe1â‹TMxCox)2As2 and Ba(Fe1â‹TMxNix)2As2 single crystals

We present detailed heat capacity measurements for Ba(Fe1−xCox)2As2 and Ba(Fe1−xNix)2As2 single crystals in the vicinity of the superconducting transitions. The specific-heat jump at the superconducting transition temperature (Tc), ΔCp/Tc, changes by a factor of ∼10 across these series. The ΔCp/Tc vs Tc data of this work [together with the literature data for Ba(Fe0.939Co0.061)2As2, (Ba0.55K0.4...

Magneto-optical study of Ba(Fe1−xMx)2As2 (M=Co and Ni) single crystals irradiated with heavy ions

Optimally doped single crystals of Ba Fe1−xMx 2As2 M =Co, Ni were irradiated with 1.4 GeV Pb56+ ions at fluences corresponding to matching fields of B =0.1, 0.5, 1, and 2 T. Magneto-optical imaging has been used to map the distribution of the magnetic induction in the irradiated samples. The imaging is complemented by the magnetization measurements. The results show a substantial enhancement of...

Determination of the phase diagram of the electron-doped superconductor Ba(Fe1−xCox)2As2

Systematic measurements of the resistivity, heat capacity, susceptibility, and Hall coefficient are presented for single-crystal samples of the electron-doped superconductor Ba Fe1−xCox 2As2. These data delineate an x-T phase diagram in which the single magnetic/structural phase transition that is observed for undoped BaFe2As2 at 134 K appears to split into two distinct phase transitions, both ...

Intrinsic pinning on structural domains in underdoped single crystals of Ba(Fe1−xCox)2As2

Critical current density was studied in single crystals of Ba Fe1−xCox 2As2 for the values of x spanning the entire doping phase diagram. A noticeable enhancement was found for slightly underdoped crystals with the peak at x=0.058. Using a combination of polarized-light imaging, x-ray diffraction and magnetic measurements we associate this behavior with the intrinsic pinning on structural domai...
